Professor Steven Loza was named chair of the Jesús C. Romero Professorship for 2008, the highest honor given to an investigator in the field of ethnomusicology and historical musicology in México. From November 3 through 7, 2008 he will present lectures and seminars at the Centro Nacional del las Artes in Mexico City. The major theme of the lecture series is "Challenges for Today's Global Musicology." Lectures will include topics such as "Mexican musical activity at UCLA," "The music of Mexican Americans," "Latin influence in jazz: Tito Puente and Gerald Wilson," and "Religion as art."
The series will conclude with a concert featuring Professor Loza with Mexico City-based jazz group, Jazzfalto.
