I am saddened to report the passing of two individuals who were important to our department. Tsun Yuen Lui, who taught performance and lecture courses in Chinese music from the 1960s to the 1980s in the old Department of Music, died on January 8. His funeral will take place on January 17, 2008.

We have also recently learned about the passing of Lilly Nketia, the wife of J. H. Kwabena Nketia. As many of you may know, Kwabena Nketia was a professor of ethnomusicology and African music in the old Department of Music from the late 1960s to the early 1980s.

Dear Friends and Colleagues:
It has been announced from Accra that Mrs. Lilly Nketia, aka "Auntie Lilly," Professor J. H. Kwabena Nketia's wife, died suddenly on Saturday January 12, after a brief illness. Childhood sweethearts, and subsequently life partners, Auntie Lilly and Professor Nketia got married in the early 1950s and became inseparable until last Saturday. Funeral arrangements are yet to be completed.
